The Skoda Yeti SUV, which makes it public debut at the London motor show in July, will also be available with a two-wheel drive transmission.
The car is built on a platform closely related to the Volkswagen Tiguan and uses similar engines and four-wheel-drive technology.
But it was not known until now that it would also have a more efficient, front-wheel-drive option, pitching it directly against the successful Nissan Qashqai and Fiat Sedici.
The Skoda Yeti was originally conceived for eastern European markets, but Skoda now wnats to sell it in western Europe as well.
